Point of View | John McGrail at the Root

July 5, 2011

Two iPhones capture sound and visuals at Lakewood's Root Cafe where John McGrail plays originals on a Friday night. John says, " I think the piece was the improvised extension of a song called "It's A Problem I Have" but I'm not totally sure."

This is my first project using Final Cut Pro X, which does a really nice syncing of clips around the audio. Walt Campbell provided one of the perspectives which, later, we realized overlapped with the 360view I was getting. Spencer Kohan co-edited the video. We experimented with video effects and titles.

Time will tell whether this is a replacement for Premiere Pro, of which I have an outdated copy.

Father's Day 2011

Nidelzeltli is a Swiss cream candy. Dad learned to make it from his mom. He teaches his children well. We will teach our children too.

Bluesfestival Baden | Ed Elastic Band

June 26, 2011

On our last day in Switzerland, Bluesfestival Baden and small town charm bedazzled us in equal measure. The Ed Elastic Band is twelve Swiss musicians from greater Baden Baden who play Jazz, Funk and new Orleans marching-band style numbers. The band’s friendly showmanship easily grabs the audience.

This movie pairs live music with relaxed moments on a Saturday afternoon. I think the contrast works well.

Dogs at Play

April 7, 2011

Organized humans run through the dog park on a Saturday morning. Dogs and leashes part company as their people honor their inner (and outer) spontaneity.

"Every being has its own role to fulfill, its own dignity, its inner spontaneity. Every being has its own voice. Every being declares itself to the entire universe. Every being enters into communion with other beings."
Thomas Berry, The Great Work

Dutch Dreams | I dream for icecream

April 5, 2011

Dutch Dreams: emporium of frozen confection in the heart of Toronto. Feast for the eyes, the taste buds and the connoisseur of friendly vibes.

All of which does not quite excuse my excessive panning. Apologies to anyone who experiences vertigo on my account. I'll go for the still frame with action moving through next time and see where this leads me.
