Swiss minarets notwithstanding

Sankt Martin im CalfeisentalHere’s the church.  Here’s the steeple.  Open the doors and see all the people.  Child’s play back in the day, with not a minaret to be seen.

Nearly 58 percent of Swiss voters put the nix on minaret building and the kibosh on religious tolerance.  Of course, it’s never that simple.

Wide Open

Carnival (song fragment)]Most of the available footage for Wide Open is from a stationary camera.  When I zoom in to vary the perspective, I like the graininess of the close ups.  So I decide to go for the black and white, jittery look of old footage.  Think CBGBs in the 70's.

The convoluted brain map

It always makes him sullen and resentful when he doesn't have anything to be sullen and resentful about.
Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman, Zits

When art, science and philanthropy merge, I tend toward joyous-and-thankful, but not this time.  The Cleveland Clinic to manage Lou Ruvo brain center in Vegas headline shot my sullen-and-resentful-meter sky high.  It isn't architect Frank Gehry's 'rippling grid of stainless steel' or the 'way north of $120 million' price tag that confound me.  It's this:

'I'm going to have the best doctors in the world here,' Ruvo said he told Gehry.
