CLEVELAND
(January 29, 2010)

Storyteller/musician Susan Weber joins visual artist Wendy Mahon and dancer Katie Gnagy Crosby (Verb Ballets) in a K through Second Grade arts residency at Cleveland's John W. Raper Elementary School this winter. The project integrates the arts with Social Studies standards including History, People in Societies and Citizenship. The residency, sponsored by Art is Education, will include arts performances and 8-9 workshops by each artist with each of the K-2 classes, culminating in student performances.

An artist/teacher planning meeting on January 28th was followed by an Art is Education Winter Best Practices professional development session at the Barbara Byrd Bennett Center. Art is Education is a partnership of Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

The Best Practices session featured presentations and hands-on experiences on the theme, 'Identifying Multiple Intelligences.' Presenters were Stephanie Heriger, Education Programs Manager, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and Ria TerraNova-Webb, Drama Specialist, Cleveland School of the Arts.
